Our Purpose
The AGI will ensure the dissemination of information and documentation contained in Dr Alice Green’s archival holdings at the University at Albany Library. Dr Green created strong relationships with people, institutions and organizations through her activism and advocacy.
These merit investigation and inquiry. The archive will deepen and complicate our understanding of carceral life, Albany and New York politics and the history of the Center for Law and Justice. The AGI honors her legacy and her work by maintaining a focus on the pursuit of anti-racism and carceral justice.
We offer opportunities for researchers and community members to conduct original research with the papers of Dr Alice Green as well as the Center for Law and Justice. These include research fellowships, internships, and essay prizes.

About Dr. Alice P. Green
Dr. Alice Green was the Founder of the Center for Law and Justice, a civil rights organization she founded in 1985. She has a doctorate in criminal justice and 3 master’s degrees – education, social work, and criminology. The Center provides community education on civil and criminal justice, legal guidance and advocacy, crisis intervention, and community planning and organizing around criminal justice, civil rights and civil liberties issues of particular concern to poor communities and those of color.
Dr. Alice P. Green was a tireless advocate for racial justice, civil rights, and community empowerment. As the founder and Executive Director of the Center for Law and Justice in Albany, NY, Dr. Green has dedicated her life to challenging systemic racism, promoting equity, and uplifting marginalized voices. Her work has transformed countless lives and continues to inspire a new generation of activists and leaders. Dr. Green's unwavering commitment to justice and her profound impact on the community stand as a testament to her extraordinary legacy.
